Shopify Analytics session measurement improvements
Starting September 21, 2026, Shopify is improving the sessions experience in Analytics to give merchants a cleaner view of real shopper activity. As a result, sessions, conversion rate, and other session-based metrics might look different after this update.
This doesn't necessarily mean that your traffic, orders, or customer behavior changed. This update gives you a cleaner session baseline by focusing the default sessions experience on human visitors where the Human or bot filter is available, classifying bot/system traffic more consistently, and keeping valid shopper journeys visible even when they don't include a standard pageview.
Session-based metrics that might look different include:
* Sessions
* Conversion rate
* Add-to-cart rate
* Reached checkout rate
* Checkout conversion rate
* Bounce rate
* Pageviews per session
* Online store visitors
* Searches
Orders, sales, and customer counts aren't changed by this session measurement update.
When you compare reports before and after September 21, 2026, treat this as a new baseline for session-based metrics.
