Returns and exchanges in cart for POS

Returns, refunds, and exchanges now happen directly in the cart in Shopify POS v11.4. Instead of moving through separate workflows, staff can now complete these transactions in one place. This updated experience makes it faster and simpler to process returns and exchanges at the counter, while supporting a wider range of return and exchange scenarios.

This update extends existing operational controls to the new in-cart workflow, including support for return reasons, Smart Grid and full cart functionality, refund handling, and staff permissions for return and exchange actions.

We’ve also introduced new Return permissions in POS, including Manage item restock, Remove unfulfilled items, and Complete in-progress returns, which are all allowed by default at launch. The Require return reasons setting is also available and is turned off by default at launch. Review these permissions and settings to make sure they’re configured the way you want for your staff.

If your Return & exchange orders manager approval setting was already enabled, it now applies to Manage item restock and Complete in-progress returns. Manager approval for Remove unfulfilled items is enabled by default.
