Shopify now supports €3 EU import customs duty collection

Shopify Managed Markets and Shopify's import tax and duty calculation now support the EU's flat €3 customs duty per tariff line on qualifying orders up to €150 shipped into the EU from outside the EU, effective July 1, 2026. If you use either product, Shopify handles this fee for you automatically. No settings changes required.

What’s now supported

In Shopify Managed Markets: The €3 fee is calculated, displayed, and collected at checkout. As your merchant of record, Global-e remits the duty to the destination country. Duty amounts shown at checkout are guaranteed, so neither you nor your customer pays more later.

In Shopify import tax and duty calculation: The €3 fee is included in the duty amount calculated and displayed at checkout, so you can collect it from your customer alongside other duties.

In both cases, the fee is charged in addition to VAT and any national handling fees, consistent with the EU regulation.

What changed and who it affects

The EU ended the €150 duty-free threshold for low-value imports and replaced it with a flat €3 customs duty per tariff line on qualifying orders up to €150 shipped into the EU from outside the EU. Customs counts the unique tariff classification lines in each parcel and applies €3 per line:

  • A parcel of only apparel: €3
  • A parcel of apparel, cosmetics, shoes, and jewelry: €12

This affects you if you ship to EU customers from outside the EU, including from the UK. It does not affect intra-EU shipments. Learn more about these changes in the Shopify Help Center.
