Inventory reports now show on-hand quantity
Starting October 1, 2026
Inventory analytics models now measure stock by on-hand quantity instead of available quantity. This better reflects real world information of your physical inventory.
- On-hand quantity includes all units physically at a location, including units committed to open orders and units currently unavailable.
- Available quantity includes only units that are available to sell.
What to expect
From October 1 onward, these reports reflect everything you actually hold, not just what's sellable, so reported inventory may be higher than before by the number of committed and unavailable units. When writing ShopifyQL, this change can be seen when you query "FROM inventory" or "FROM inventorybylocation". Any reports powered by these models will reflect this change including:
- Products by sell-through rate
- Products by days of inventory remaining
- Inventory adjustment changes
- Inventory sold daily by product
- ABC product analysis
- Month-end inventory value
- Inventory transfer orders and shipments
- Month-end inventory snapshot
Your past data won't change. Reporting before September 1, 2026 still shows available quantity, so historical numbers and trends stay exactly as they were. Only September 1 and later use on-hand.
