Define and manage metafields on inventory transfers

Inventory transfers now support custom metafields in the Shopify admin and Admin GraphQL API.

Set up transfer metafields

Go to Settings > Metafields and metaobjects > Transfers to define your metafield definitions, then add and edit values from the Transfer Create and Transfer Details pages.

Use cases

Transfer metafields are useful when your receiving, logistics, or inventory processes rely on data that the standard transfer fields don't cover:

  • Lot, serial, and RFID tracking — attach lot numbers, serial numbers, or RFID identifiers to reconcile received units against what was shipped
  • Logistics and customs details — store freight account numbers, bill of lading numbers, container references, incoterms, or customs-broker notes on inbound shipments
  • ERP and WMS sync — let inventory apps attach reference numbers and mapping keys to keep transfers in sync with an external warehouse or ERP system
  • Stocky migration — if you moved off Stocky, transfer metafields replace the supplier references, internal codes, lot codes, and approval notes you stored on Stocky transfers

Duplicating transfers

Metafields copy to the new transfer when you duplicate. If a metafield uses a unique-value constraint, a warning appears before the duplicate is created.

Analytics

Enable the Filter or group data in Analytics option on a transfer metafield definition to use it as a dimension or filter in Shopify Analytics.
