What’s new in Shopify

If you use Basic Tax in Canada and sell vape products to customers in Newfoundland and Labrador, Shopify now automatically calculates the province's 20% Vapour Products Tax (VPT) at checkout.

The VPT applies to electronic liquid vaporizers and cannabis vape pods, and is correctly compounded with HST as required by provincial tax rules — meaning HST is calculated on the item price plus the VPT amount.

No action is required. Eligible tax calculations will update automatically.
